Professional Profile

Mr Marcel Geyer is a Consultant Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Surgeon
based in Portsmouth, working across Hampshire and the South of England region.
He qualified as a doctor in South Africa in 1995, then completed his postgraduate
surgical training in Brighton, Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital and the
Royal National Throat Nose and Ear Hospital, London, before finishing his higher
surgical training in the Wessex Deanery, and gained his FRCS certification with the
Royal College of Surgeons in Otolaryngology Head and Neck surgery (ENT Surgery) in 2009 .

He undertook a prestigious international fellowship in
Advanced Cochlear Implantation and Otology at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital
and Children's Hospital Westmead, Sydney, Australia (2011), working alongside
world-renowned pioneer Professor Gibson.

Mr Marcel Geyer served as a Consultant ENT Surgeon at
Salisbury District Hospital for 13 years (2011–2023), where he established a
cochlear implant service and was head of the ENT department (2018–2021),
including through the first two years of the COVID pandemic. Since October
2023 he has been a Consultant ENT Surgeon at Queen Alexandra Hospital,
Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust. He currently serves as the Regional Lead Clinician and Cochlear Implant Surgeon for the East Region of the South of England Auditory Implant Service (AIS), based at the University of Southampton. 

His clinical practice encompasses complex ear surgery including middle ear and mastoid procedures, bone conducting hearing implants (BCHI), cochlear implants, stapedectomy, and myringoplasty. He also provides diagnostic lateral skull base services.

Mr Marcel Geyer has contributed to over 27 peer-reviewed
publications and has been a contributor to major national trials including the
NATTINA trial (The Lancet, 2023) on tonsillectomy versus conservative
management in adults with recurrent sore throats. He has presented at major
conferences including the American Academy of Otolaryngology meetings (San
Francisco, Chicago, San Diego) and the British Academic Conference in
Otolaryngology (BACO), and been awarded numerous prizes including Patient-nominated SOX (Sharing Outstanding Excellence) Award, Salisbury Foundation Trust (2022), National Children and Young People's Survey mention for good customer care (2017), National Inpatient Survey mention for good customer care (2015). He is a Clinical and Educational Supervisor for junior doctors (2010–present), a previous examiner
for Southampton University Medical School, and founder/organiser of the Wessex
'Introduction to ENT Course' for junior doctors.
