About Mr Malcolm Padwick

Mr Padwick graduated from King's College Hospital Medical School in 1980. After completing his basic medical training at the same hospital, he spent 3 years as a Research Fellow and published 12 papers covering hormonal therapies and endometrial cancer response. He is a specialist in gynaecological cancer and general gynaecological surgery, performing advanced and radical open and laparoscopic surgery for all the major gynaecological complaints. He has a particular interest in laser surgery for endometriosis and regularly performs laparoscopic surgery including hysterectomy and pelvic floor repair.

Mr Padwick was one of the first surgeons to introduce and develop minimal access surgery, performing the first laparoscopic hysterectomy in the South West Region of England in 1993. Since then, he has performed more than 500 cases. He also introduced laparoscopic CO2 LASER surgery to West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust in 1998, and has successfully treated more than 700 women suffering from endometriosis since that time.

Currently a member of the Multidisplicinary Team for gynaecological cancer at the Mount Vernon Cancer Centre, he performs more than 100 major cancer operations per year.

He has developed laparoscopic surgery techniques for the management of prolapse and reconstruction of the perineum after damage due to childbirth and has published papers on the surgical techniques for laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy for prolapse and ovarian cystectomy in the mid-trimester of pregnancy.
