Mr Hashemi graduated from Manchester University before training in London and at Addenbrooke's and other hospitals in East Anglia. He spent 15 months as a fellow to Dr DeMeester at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. In 2001 he was appointed as a Senior Lecturer at University College London and was the Surgical Tutor and Head of Academic Surgery at the Whittington Hospital and Archway Campus between 2001 and 2007. He has a notable safety record, with over 3000 stomach and oesophagus operations performed at a zero mortality rate.

Mr Hashemi was one of only 12 surgeons in the UK who offered the LINX procedure for acid reflux and he performed the first Linx implant procedure carried out in London. He was also the first surgeon in the UK to place the Linx device in a patient after a laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy.
His significant experience allows him to give a focused, patient-centred approach, tailoring treatment for each individual and their specific needs. It is his firm belief that patients should be involved in all major decisions throughout their treatment.

Mr Hashemi is not only a very experienced and professional Consultant, he is kind, patient and really understands what a perspective patient may have been through emotionally, prior to ending up in the consultation room. Not only that, he actually cares and is very compassionate, which I felt within moments of meeting him. During the consultation I felt heard, understood, and most importantly, not judged for how I had ended up in my current situation, in terms of my weight gain. I left the consultation feeling happy, and assured that I had found the right person, should I decide to go ahead with the Sleeve Gastrectomy, which I did, the following month. Upon meeting with Mr Hashemi again, on my surgery date, I was incredibly nervous, due to my lack of experience with surgical procedures, but I felt comfortable and confident again after speaking with him. The procedure itself went brilliantly, and I feel that Mr Hashemi went above and beyond for me. Mr Hashemi saw me through the recovery process in hospital, and was clear with other medical staff about he wanted my care to go. I am home and recovering well, and look forward to my follow up appointment.

I first met Mr Hashemi in August 2022 when I had been recommended to him as a leading UK specialist in upper GI issues. I had been experiencing swallowing difficulties that were significantly worsening for over 2 years. Prior to meeting Mr Hashemi I had seen a local specialist in Derby who had undertaken initial tests but hadn't been proactive at all. When I went back in July 2022 to record significantly worsening symptoms the local specialist's only recommendation was to repeat the manometry test again (which had been traumatic the first time in 2021!). It was at this point that I sought more specialist help and found Mr Hashemi in order to obtain a second opinion on my symptoms and condition as I really couldn't face going through another manometry test and was starting to have significant swallowing difficulties and regurgitation issues which were effecting my daily life. A terrifying experience as a 30 year old otherwise healthy woman. Mr Hashemi was amazing from the moment I met him. A breath of fresh air. He was very knowledgeable, went through my medical history in detail and explained the possible causes of the issues I was experiencing. He had a brilliant bedside manner, one of the loveliest consultants I have ever met and was exceptionally proactive. He acted quickly to move to a diagnosis as fast as possible. I was booked in for a barium swallow test within a week after my first consultation and he, along with his very efficient secretary Zoe, helped to obtain the results from tests undertaken by my prior consultant in Derby to reach a diagnosis of achalasia within a month. Once diagnosed Dr Hashemi went through all of the possible surgical options and the pros and cons of each which was very helpful. He offered virtual consultations rather than face to face consultations as I live so far from London which was also brilliant. I was booked in for a laparoscopic myotomy at St John and St Elizabeth shortly after. I couldn't have asked for a quicker or more efficient response and to give me the certainty of knowing what was wrong so quickly without being required to undertake significantly more invasive tests. Without Mr Hashemi's proactivity I dread to think where I would be now! I was booked in for my operation initially in November 2022 but had to postpone until January 2023 due to contracting COVID along the way. Mr Hashemi supported me through the pre-operation process and diet required and was always on hand to answer queries and provide recommendations via email and Zoe when I needed him to. This was so helpful when I experienced even worsening symptoms from November to January when on some bad days I couldn't eat or drink at all. When it came to the procedure and admission to hospital I couldn't have asked for better care. He explained the procedure to both me and my husband and put my mind at rest throughout what was a very daunting experience. He was amazing both before the op and after the op, checking in with me daily while I was in hospital and ensuring he was always a phone call away when I was discharged and recovering at home. He was also very thorough when considering wider potential health considerations which may be linked to my achalasia and referred me for further tests to a rheumatologist for my eczema, a condition I've struggled with for life and seen lots of dermatologists who have never suggested such a consideration. Again, Mr Hashemi's care and attention cannot be faulted in any way. I'm now just over 2 weeks post-op and have had no difficulties in swallowing so far while following a soft diet. Mr Hashemi has recommended that I join a support group to help to deal with the psychological impacts of achalasia, which I have done, and am very grateful for this further support beyond the diagnosis and surgery. Overall I cannot thank or recommend Mr Hashemi enough for his attention to detail, empathy, efficiency, sympathy, expertise, support, care and for improving my quality of life again when I thought I would forever be suffering! I will forever be grateful to him and for the referral to him and would recommend him in a heartbeat to anyone at all struggling with upper GI issues.

I cannot recommend Mr Hashemi highly enough. His knowledge of my condition and subsequent advice completely changed my preconception of the required treatment pathway. From initial consultation to further testing procedures and finally to surgery, the process was seamless. Mr Hashemi is an incredibly professional and experienced surgeon, his reassuring manner instilling total confidence. Following my operation recovery has been far quicker than I anticipated, and the end result was life changing. Thank you.

Mr Hashemi was an excellent choice of specialist when it came to dealing with my relatively rare condition, having been bounced around between tests by my GP over nearly a year. He very quickly scheduled a definitive test and, following a clear result, equally quickly scheduled my surgery following clear and detailed discussion with me. Now, two months post-op, I'm very pleased to have been seen to by someone who is a specialist in their field and who provided excellent care prior to, during and after my successful surgery.

Mr Hashemi is a highly competent and courteous surgeon. I was referred to him by a highly expernieced internist who described him as one of the best in the field. Mr Hashemii explained the procedure fully to me, including possible alternatives and risks. He was meticulous in planning my operation and had several radiological, cardionolgical and lab investigations carried out before deciding to go ahead with the procedure. Following the operation, he was at my bedside, looking after my recovery. Upon discharge, he gave me full instructions, including ways to contact h,im in case needed.

General SurgeryI have known Majid Hashemi for many years, and we have worked together as consultants. He is an excellent surgeon with a wealth of experience in upper gastrointestinal surgery - both benign and malignant. His interests lie in laparoscopic surgery for morbid obesity, and complex oesophageal cases including recurrent hiatus hernia and cardiomyotomy. I can thoroughly recommend him for these and other laparoscopic procedures including gallbladder surgery.

GastroenterologyMajid has a very wide experience in acid reflux surgery and has a great deal of expertise in this field. He is thorough and meticulous in his assessment of patients before surgery, and explains the pros and cons of operative intervention with care, so that his patients are empowered to make the right decision for them and know what to expect post operatively. I have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone wanting a surgical opinion on reflux disease
