Mr Jonathan Finch

Mr Guy Finch first completed his training in Sheffield, London and Leicester, where he went on to become a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1996. He followed this with research into liver tumours whilst working in Adelaide from 1999 to 2000, his work earned him his MD. Since 1994, he has been performing laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery and bariatric surgery since 2002.

In 2003 Mr Finch was the Leicester Mercury Doctor of the Year and was nominated in 2010 for an East Midlands Healthcare award. He currently has an honorary contract with the University Hospitals of Leicester where he performs joint operations for upper GI cancer and is the only surgeon within Northamptonshire who has an ongoing interest in upper GI cancer. He works as the NGH Trust Lead for upper GI/HPB surgery and has worked as the Lead Clinician for Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy, where he oversaw an improvement in day cases, assisting in the rise from 4% to 72%. Outside of this, he introduced Laparoscopic Splenectomy to Northampton.

Mr Finch has gained extensive experience of operations for reflux disease, hiatus hernia and Achalasia and is often referred cases from all around the East Midlands. In his field, he is very well known for his expertise with Laparoscopic Hernia repair, mainly inguinal and incisional but also rarer hernias too. Due to his expertise in this area, Mr Finch is renowned as one of the most experienced surgeons in Laparoscopic Incisional Hernia repair.

Outside of his expertise in these fields, he also teaches this technique to other Consultants and can be found giving lectures for the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons. During 2013 he's had four presentations on incisional hernias accepted for the Association of Surgeons meeting, two of which were in the distinction category. He sub-specialises in surgery of the liver, gallbladder and pancreas and the oesophagus and stomach.
