Mr James Fitzgerald

Mr James Fitzgerald is a distinguished Consultant Neurosurgeon who specialises in functional neurosurgery and advanced neuromodulation therapies. His practice concentrates on delivering surgical solutions for patients affected by movement disorders and severe chronic pain. Through meticulous clinical assessment and tailored treatment planning, he works to restore function and improve daily quality of life for those undergoing complex neurological care.

His clinical focus encompasses the evaluation and treatment of conditions such as Parkinson's disease, dystonia, essential tremor, and neuropathic pain. Mr Fitzgerald performs a wide range of advanced surgical interventions, including deep brain stimulation, spinal cord stimulation, dorsal root ganglion stimulation, and peripheral nerve stimulation. In parallel with his surgical work, he engages in translational research into neural interfacing and bioelectronic technology, integrating cutting-edge scientific insights into clinical practice to enhance patient outcomes.

Mr Fitzgerald earned his initial undergraduate degree in Physics at Oxford University in 1992 before completing his medical qualification at the same institution in 1998. He completed specialist higher surgical training in Neurosurgery in Nottingham and Cambridge, and was awarded a PhD in Neuroelectronic Interfacing from Cambridge University. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Surgical Neurology and maintains an active academic faculty position alongside his senior clinical responsibilities.
