About Mr Henry Bourke

Mr Henry Bourke is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon who specialises exclusively in problems with the knee. He qualified at Imperial College School of Medicine in 2002 and underwent his specialist orthopaedic training in the South West Thames Region. After obtaining his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2010 he travelled to Australia to undertake two wordl-renowned sports knee orthopaedic fellowships. He was appointed as a substantive consultant at Heatherwood & Wexham Park Hospitals NHS Trust in October 2013 where he worked until 2024. He now works solely in the private sector.

Mr Bourke takes into consideration different management plans for any knee problems that patients might face and presents them in an understandable way, in particular the likely outcome of not having an operation. He is specialised in dealing with patients of all ages with sports injuries through to complex knee reconsturctive options for knee osteoarthritis. He is a veteran of >1000 robot-assisted knee replacement cases using the MAKO robot to implant new knees with the latest technology.

Mr Bourke keeps his knowledge and techniques up to date by regularly attending both national and international conferences. He has also published numerous articles on knee surgery and continues to actively participate in research.

Outside of the hospital he enjoys a multitude of sporting activities including tennis, skiing and golf.

Mr Bourke has expertise in the following areas:

  • Knee arthroscopy (key-hole surgery) and ligament reconstruction
  • Sports injuries to the knee
  • Treatment of early osteoarthritis

I had a knee replacement in Dec 2025. I was so thankful to Mr Bourke's honesty in explaining the procedure and what to expect after the operation. Though I was vey apprehensive and anxious about the operation, his team were so supportive I knew I was in good hands. The result has been amazing. 6 months later I have just come back from walking 50 mls along the Welsh Coastal path!!! Thank you Mr Bourke you are an amazing surgeon.

I am terrified of operations but Mr Bourke and his team were the BEST. No drama, no infection, the neatest, straightest scar and I can now stand and walk with my new knee - I am booking in for the other knee asap

I 100% trust Mr Henry Bourke (and only him) with treating my osteoarthiritis in both knees. I was told over 10 year ago (and by NHS) that my only option was/is to have full knee replacements. I was so glad i did not (and still do not) accept this diagnosis and requested a second opinion from the best knee specialist recommended to me all those years ago. I am proof that with a bit of TLC, good advice, keeping fit, eating healthy, keeping weight down etc there are alternatives out there that work without resulting in extreme surgery. Cannot thank you enough as you gave me my active life back and i would highly recommend you to anyone with similar problems. Thank You Thank You Thank You Jill
