Mr Christopher Shearer is a Consultant General Surgeon with specialist expertise in robotic, upper gastrointestinal, laparoscopic, and weight loss surgery. He works as a full-time private consultant across Ross Hall Hospital Glasgow and Kings Park Hospital Stirling.
Prior to his private practice, he spent 16 years as a Consultant Surgeon with NHS Forth Valley, where he also served as Acting Lead Clinician for the Upper Gastrointestinal Cancer Managed Clinical Network and Secretary of the Severe and Complex Obesity Treatment Service group. In addition, he contributed to medical education as an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at University of Glasgow.
Mr Shearer graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1995 and completed his general surgical training in the West of Scotland. He was awarded a Medical Doctorate in 2004 for his research into Barrett’s oesophagus, with his work leading to national and international presentations and publications. In 2008, he was nominated for a World Scientist Forum International Award.
He further developed his subspecialist expertise through an international travelling fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania, focusing on weight loss surgery, followed by 18 months as a Surgical Fellow and University Lecturer at the University of New South Wales.
Mr Shearer performs a wide range of procedures, including robotic and laparoscopic gallbladder surgery, hernia repair (robotic, open, and laparoscopic), endoscopy, colonoscopy, and gastric balloon insertion for weight loss. His particular interests include minimally invasive gallbladder surgery, anti-reflux procedures such as fundoplication, and bariatric procedures including sleeve gastrectomy.
