I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Knee Surgeon and lead the knee preservation service at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore. I am a founding partner of Grosvenor Orthopaedic Partners and consult at Spire Bushey Hospital, Princess Grace Hospital, and 14 Devonshire Street.
My practice is built around helping patients keep their own knee working for as long as possible, and replacing it well when the time comes.
I offer the full spectrum of knee surgery: cartilage surgery, meniscal surgery and transplantation, osteotomy, sports injuries including ACL reconstruction, patellofemoral instability, partial and total knee replacement, and complex revision knee replacement. Not every knee problem requires surgery, and I offer a range of non-operative treatments, including advanced injection therapies, for patients where that is the right approach.
Two areas of particular focus are knee preservation and kinematic alignment in total knee replacement. In preservation, my aim is to restore the knee where possible and to prevent or delay joint replacement surgery. In total knee replacement, my approach is kinematic alignment: tailoring implant positioning to the anatomy of your individual knee rather than applying a one-size-fits-all technique. I also offer robotic-assisted knee replacement at selected sites, which uses a personalised three-dimensional plan of your joint to guide the procedure, an approach that shares the same patient-specific philosophy.
My commitment in every case is the same: precision, personalisation and long-term knee health.
I read medicine at Oxford University (Magdalen College) and completed a DPhil examining the biology of knee osteoarthritis. My surgical training included specialist fellowships at Gold Coast University Hospital in Australia, the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford, and the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading.
In every consultation my aim is straightforward: to understand not just your diagnosis but the reality of how your knee affects your daily life, and to give you enough time, clear explanation, and honest advice. Whatever path you choose, you will feel fully informed and confident in that decision.

Mr Chethan Jayadev is professional, clear, and informative with patients. He performs total and partial knee replacements, ACL reconstructive surgery, and advises on non-surgical care, including Arthrosamid injections. Patients find his approach thorough and attentive, resulting in positive outcomes beyond expectations. Mr Jayadev's practice focuses on comprehensive solutions for knee pain, osteoarthritis, and arthritis-related knee problems, with knee replacement as a significant treatment option.
Mr Jayafev was a consummate professional . Explained issue and options clearly compassionately and professionally . I would have no hesitation in recommending him .
Mr Jayadev is the consummate professional and an amazing surgeon. I cannot praise him or thank him enough after he identified issues with my knee that others hadn't. He carefully, and in detail, discussed the options for treatment, and listened attentively and compassionately to all my questions and comments. He tailored treatment accordingly and ensured that all eventualities could be dealt with on the day of surgery. As well as dealing with a fractured patella, he performed revision knee replacement surgery. I anticipated a longer, and more uncomfortable recovery than that of the previous knee replacements. It turned out to be the opposite and I put that down to the skill of the surgeon. Absolutely amazing.. I would highly recommend Mr Jayadev to anyone that has knee problems and is searching for an orthopaedic surgeon who specialises in this field. If I could give him a ten star rating out of five, I would.
I had a consultation with Mr Jayadev following on- going issues I have had with knee stiffness and pain after standing for prolonged periods of time and walking long distance. My main reason to have this consultation was about Arthrosamid injection, having done some research. Mr Jayadev listened and explored history regarding my knee issues and he examined both my knees thoroughly checked my the X-rays. I found Mr Jayadev very knowledgeable and he gave me a plan to consider following my consultation. He was honest about not going ahead with the injection therapy I went to see him about and explained why. I would definitely see Mr Jayadev again if my knee issues don’t improve following my consultation with him and advice given.
Mr Jayadev carried out bilateral knee surgery (total and partial). All stages of the procedure (pre-op, op and post-op) were conducted with a high degree of professionalism and expertise by Mr Jayadev, leading to a highly successful outcome.
I came to Mr Jayadev with a knee that had been causing problems for some time, and with no shortage of questions before agreeing to go ahead with a partial anterior replacement. He answered all of them — thoroughly, honestly, and without making me feel like I was wasting his time. That patience before the procedure was as important to me as the procedure itself. Fourteen weeks on, I'm back in the gym hitting personal bests on the leg press. I genuinely did not expect to be in this position this quickly. The outcome has exceeded what I hoped for, and that's entirely down to Mr Jayadev's skill and the care he took throughout. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him.
Really pleased with the consultation and advice provided throughout my experience.
Very professional approach. He demonstrated knowledge, empathy and was very thorough
I had a total knee replacement surgery. Mr Jayadev was reassuring before my surgery and answered all my questions. The surgery went very well and I was released from hospital on the third day. I want to express my sincere thanks to Mr Jayadev and all the team involved in my knee replacement surgery. Throughout my treatment I felt very informed and treated with kindness and professionalism. The care and expertise shown in my six week follow up appointment was greatly appreciated.
Pre-Op calm & re-assuring. Went well with no/ little pain post-op. Staff were excellent at hospital. Up and walking with (and at times without) crutches. Stairs fine. Post operation review was good. Challenges of operation explained (I have scar tissue from previous ops. Clear on expectations of recovery - up to 120 degrees of flexion likely - in fact have achieved 127 degrees to date. Good manner, sound advise. Thank you
Mr Jayadev provided exactly the advice I needed for a worsening knee problem (the result of an old injury). He suggested a pragmatic and non surgical approach and ongoing monitoring.
CJ is an excellent knee surgeon. He is known for his thoughtful and meticulous approach which translates as happy patients. He offers the full range of non-surgical and surgical options for the knee, with helps patients to align with their goals.
