About Dr Charles Li

Training and Appointment

Dr Li graduated from Imperial College London in 1994, undertaking his preclinical studies at Queens' College, Cambridge. After general medical training and obtaining

MRCP in 1997 he completed his rheumatology/ general medicine rotation in

London, working in renowned teaching hospitals including Royal Free and

University College Hospital London. Before appointed to his current NHS

substantive post in 2007 he completed his PhD studies at the Institute of Child

Health, University College London working on immunobiology of muscles in

inflammatory myopathies; during his research years he received additional

training on connective tissue diseases at University College London and Great

Ormond Street Hospitals.

Current Practice

Dr Li has been a consultant rheumatologist and physician at Royal Surrey since 2007. Beyond a busy clinical commitment he contributed to teaching and research, actively

engaging in translational research and has been the principal investigator for

a number of Phase IIb and Phase III clinical studies in rheumatoid arthritis,

psoriatic arthritis and SLE.

Inflammatory arthritis including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing

spondylitis and gout, osteoarthritis, connective tissue diseases especially SLE and myopathies, osteoporosis, fibromyalgia and vasculitides

Special clinical and research interests

Inflammatory diseases affecting the musculoskeletal system, especially their patho-aetiology and altered immune response
