Mr Bertie Surgith Fernando

Mr. Bertie Surgith Fernando is a highly skilled ophthalmologist with extensive training and experience in oculoplastic, lacrimal, and orbital surgery. He began his journey by graduating from Chennai Medical College, India, followed by a Diploma in Ophthalmology at Aravind Eye Hospitals in Madurai, India.

Later, Mr. Fernando served as a senior house officer at North Middlesex NHS Hospital in London and later at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital. His passion for advancing his skills led him to pursue further training, including a registrar rotation at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital and subsequent fellowships.

His international experience includes a one-year fellowship in Oculoplastic, Lacrimal, and Orbital Surgery in Brisbane, Australia. He then returned to Manchester to complete another year-long fellowship in Oculoplastic and Orbital Surgery.

Currently, Mr. Fernando serves as part of the oculoplastic, lacrimal, and orbital surgery team at East Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. His specialised areas of expertise include managing periocular tumours such as basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, as well as correcting lid malpositions like ptosis, entropion, and ectropion.

Additionally, he is proficient in performing external and endoscopic lacrimal surgery, managing thyroid eye disease, conducting orbital decompression for protruding eyes, and addressing eyelid retraction and orbital fat prolapse. He also provides comprehensive care for patients with eye socket problems.

Beyond surgical interventions, Mr. Fernando offers non-surgical cosmetic treatments such as facial anti-wrinkle injections and dermal filler injections, enhancing patients' aesthetic appearance. In addition to his specialised practice, Mr. Fernando also provides general ophthalmology services, including cataract surgery and glaucoma management.
