Mr Andy Hacker is a Consultant Hand and Wrist Surgeon with over 15 years of consultant experience. His specialist practice is dedicated exclusively to hand, wrist, and peripheral nerve conditions, with a national and international referral reputation for thumb base arthritis and advanced thumb joint replacement surgery. He is among a selective group of surgeons who helped pioneer thumb carpometacarpal (CMC) joint replacement surgery in the UK.
Mr Hacker is an expert in the MAÏA™ thumb joint replacement system (CMCJ), performing an average of 40 of these precise joint reconstructions annually over the past seven years.
Mr Hacker’s patient philosophy focuses on recommending surgery only when it delivers a meaningful improvement to a patient's function and quality of life. Wherever possible, he performs procedures as day-case surgeries under local anaesthetic or regional nerve blocks to improve recovery times, working alongside specialist hand therapists.
Mr Hacker qualified from Newcastle Medical School and completed higher surgical training on the prestigious South West Thames Orthopaedic Rotation, including a post at St George's Hospital. He then completed an advanced Hand and Wrist Surgery Fellowship in Sydney at the Royal North Shore Hospital, gaining vast experience in complex reconstructive techniques. In 2011, he was appointed as a substantive Consultant Hand and Wrist Surgeon at Milton Keynes University Hospital, where he maintains a busy NHS practice alongside his private work.
He serves on the Oxford Orthopaedic Deanery ARCP panel as both an Educational and Clinical Supervisor. He trains resident doctors and medical students from Oxford and Buckinghamshire Medical School, and teaches thumb joint replacement surgery to fellow consultant surgeons on specialist training courses.

Mr Hacker was really friendly and gave me a clear explanation of the problem. He diagnosed me and treated me within the same appointment and I have been pain free ever since. I would highly recommend him to everyone !

Many thanks for the kind review. I’m glad I was able to get rid of your pain and restore your function. Best Andy
From beginning to end Mr Hacker was very helpful and explained everything about my procedures clearly and was happy to answer all my questions

I’m so pleased that you are now able to get back to doing the things that you want to do, without the horrible grinding pain in your thumbs, and are greatful that you chose me to perform both of your thumb joint replacements. Thanks for taking the time to post a review. Best Andy
I am deeply appreciative of the surgical procedure performed on my finger, which has restored my ability to form a fist and comfortably hold a pen, free from discomfort. The DIPJ Fusion was conducted under local anesthetic, allowing me to resume my regular activities immediately post-operation. Thank you very much for your exceptional work, and I hope you continue to utilize your skills for many more years to come. Mel Y.- CEO/Founder of IORTHO Hospital

Fast and on time appointment, fast resolution of my thumb problems
Andy identified a diagnosis really efficiently and offered treatment.
All fine, apologised as slightly late in seeing us. Very good information obviously worst case scenario but said what it was. I felt confident that he can help me sort out the ganglion.
Mr Hacker was thorough and efficient. I felt confident that he understood my health issues and how they were impacting my independence and suggested workable solutions.
Andy is the go-to hand surgeon if you or your patient is struggling with pain, especially if they have base of thumb arthritis, and is weighing up whether or not to have surgery. He's one of the top UK surgeons for base of thumb replacement (an alternative to trapeziectomy), and he's a warm, approachable, empathetic clinician, who's held in high esteem by his patients and colleagues.
