Mr Andy Hacker is a Consultant Hand and Wrist Surgeon with over 15 years of consultant experience. His specialist practice is dedicated exclusively to hand, wrist, and peripheral nerve conditions, with a national and international referral reputation for thumb base arthritis and advanced thumb joint replacement surgery. He is among a selective group of surgeons who helped pioneer thumb carpometacarpal (CMC) joint replacement surgery in the UK.
Mr Hacker is an expert in the MAÏA™ thumb joint replacement system (CMCJ), performing an average of 40 of these precise joint reconstructions annually over the past seven years.
Mr Hacker’s patient philosophy focuses on recommending surgery only when it delivers a meaningful improvement to a patient's function and quality of life. Wherever possible, he performs procedures as day-case surgeries under local anaesthetic or regional nerve blocks to improve recovery times, working alongside specialist hand therapists.
Mr Hacker qualified from Newcastle Medical School and completed higher surgical training on the prestigious South West Thames Orthopaedic Rotation, including a post at St George's Hospital. He then completed an advanced Hand and Wrist Surgery Fellowship in Sydney at the Royal North Shore Hospital, gaining vast experience in complex reconstructive techniques. In 2011, he was appointed as a substantive Consultant Hand and Wrist Surgeon at Milton Keynes University Hospital, where he maintains a busy NHS practice alongside his private work.
He serves on the Oxford Orthopaedic Deanery ARCP panel as both an Educational and Clinical Supervisor. He trains resident doctors and medical students from Oxford and Buckinghamshire Medical School, and teaches thumb joint replacement surgery to fellow consultant surgeons on specialist training courses.

Patients highly value Mr Hacker's skill in hand and wrist surgery, addressing issues like Dupuytren's Contracture and hand arthritis.
Andy was clear, kind and very sensible. He obviously has a lot of expertise and experience but what set him apart from some other medical professionals that I’ve met was his warmth and common-sense and practical approach.

Thank you for the lovely review. I’m glad I was able to help advise you about all of the options available for you. Best Andy
I saw Mr Hacker for an open reduction to a radial fracture after a fall. I was very nervous about having to have surgery as a professional musician who not only relies on their hands for their job but also as an integral part of my identity and wellbeing. As a surgeon, he was calm, confident, and reassuring, explaining the procedure very clearly throughout our encounters. I found him to be very thorough and open to explaining everything that I was anxious and concerned about. I am now six weeks post surgery and miraculously back to playing already, albeit with some additions of plates and screw! My scar is very minimal, neat and discrete, and the outcome has been better than I could have imagined in terms of how quickly mobility has been regained (with the help of regular hand therapy). I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Mr Hacker to anyone who is looking for someone with an incredible attention to detail and who will put you at ease. You will be in confident and competent hands!

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review. I’m delighted that you have been able to get back to what you need, and love to do so quickly. As we discussed, there are many options when it comes to treating broken wrists, and it’s never a “one size fits all” decision. You have clearly been working hard with the hand therapists following your operation so should definitely take some for the credit for your speedy and successful recovery. Best Andy
I have been seeying Andy Hacker since April with having new thumb joint and carpal tunnel operation .He talked me through everything that would happen on the day and after. Unfortunately I then had to have 3 months later some tendons released .I was explained everything 2 weeks on today he removed the stitches and is very pleased I can't thank him enough for his professional manner and explaining everything to myself and my husband what he would be doing I highly recommend Andy Hacker as a hand and thumb joint consultant

Thank you for your kind feedback. I’m glad we have now managed to get you thumb back and working without any pain and that your pins and needles have settled down. Best wishes Andy
Friendly and professional.

Many thanks for your feedback. Best Andy
Andy Hacker has not only been friendly and extremely communicative but, he’s done a fabulous job. When I first saw him, I was ready for amputation if it helped but my right hand and the three fingers I had worked on are in a much better state than they had been for a few years now.

Many thanks for your kind review. Im so glad I was able to improve what was a pretty tricky situation for you and that you are pleased with the end result. Best wishes Andy
Mr Hacker was friendly and professional. He was confident and gave reassurance to help mitigate any concerns. During surgery he was efficient and was good at providing distraction from the procedure taking place. The stitches were neat and easy to remove after the wound healed.

Im glad to hear that you experience was a good one and you were reassured and made to feel comfortable and listened to throughout your time with me. Many thanks for sharing your experience. Best Andy
Very good experience. There were issues with the car park but that is all the negative problem we felt over the whole experience.

Thanks for your feed back on your experience. I can only apologise for the parking issues, but Im afraid this is out of my hands. I will, however, escalate your feedback to those that need to know. Best Andy
From the onset Me Hacker made everything very clear (the good and potential bad) and felt we had a good rapport throughout surgery and consultations .

Many thanks for taking the time to time to write your review. I’m glad you felt we developed a good relationship and that everything was clear to you. Best Andy
