Mr Andrew Day

Mr. Day is a colorectal and general surgeon who is based in the Surrey and Sussex area.

He works as a consultant at East Surrey Hospital where he is the MDT lead for colorectal cancer and colorectal robotic surgery. He has a specialist interest in laparoscopic colorectal surgery, as well as performing hernia surgery and colonoscopy, and treating anal fissures, fistulae and haemorrhoids.

He has a particular interest in ‘Enhanced Recovery', which aims to optimise the pre-and post-operative care of patients undergoing bowel cancer surgery in order to improve their cancer outcome. During his training he undertook a two year MD at the Minimal Access Therapy Training Unit in Guildford and completed his thesis on the subject of Enhanced Recovery. He has received a number of national awards for his work and has published extensively on this subject.

Prior to starting as a consultant, he received specialised training in advanced laparoscopic colorectal surgery as one of the national Ethicon laparoscopic fellows. He is the current Colorectal cancer MDT lead at Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust and sits on the council of the Association of Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgeons of GB&I as the Honorary Secretary.

When not at work he lives in the Sussex area with his wife, who is a local GP, and their three children. When his children allow the time he enjoys cycling through the beautiful Sussex countryside.
