Dr Michelle Chan

Dr Michelle Chan is a highly accomplished Consultant Ophthalmologist who specialises in the diagnosis, management, and surgical treatment of glaucoma. With a reassuring and patient-centred approach, she is dedicated to preserving her patients' vision through early detection and tailored treatment strategies. Her clinical work focuses on addressing complex ocular conditions, particularly primary open-angle glaucoma, and managing intraocular pressure to prevent progressive vision loss.

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr Chan is deeply involved in ophthalmic research, contributing significantly to the global understanding of glaucoma risk factors and ocular health. Her research interests include corneal biomechanics, retinal morphology, and the genetic factors associated with glaucoma. By integrating cutting-edge scientific insights with clinical care, she ensures that her patients benefit from the latest advancements in ophthalmic medicine, including advanced laser therapies and surgical interventions such as trabeculectomy.

Dr Chan completed her medical degree, graduating with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and a Bachelor of Science with Honours from the University of London in 2002. She subsequently pursued advanced academic training, earning a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) for her research in ophthalmology. Dr Chan is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth) and has held a prestigious Clinical Training Fellowship awarded jointly by the Medical Research Council and the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. She is also an active member of the UK Biobank Eye and Vision Consortium, collaborating with leading experts to advance eye care.
