Dr Michael Shaw

I am a consultant anaesthetist at Guy's and St. Thomas' Hospitals, specialising in anaesthesia for cardiothoracic and vascular surgery. I also have an established interest in surgical critical care and transoesophageal echocardiography. My regular commitments include anaesthesia for cardiac and vascular surgery, surgical intensive care and anaesthesia in the cardiac catheter laboratory.

After graduating from the University of Leeds in 2006, I underwent basic training in anaesthesia and critical care medicine in West Yorkshire. My intermediate and higher training was obtained predominantly through Guy's and St. Thomas' Hospitals, with a 1 year stint at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and Imperial College, where I undertook a research and intensive care fellowship. Further training in cardiothoracic and trauma critical care was obtained in Sydney, Australia. I completed specialist training in cardiothoracic and vascular anaesthesia at the Royal Brompton Hospital and Guy's and St. Thomas' and was appointed as a substantive consultant in 2017.
