Ms Mei-Ling Cheng

Ms. Mei-Ling Cheng is an experienced Consultant Ophthalmologist based in Edinburgh.  She is a specialist in Glaucoma (medical, lasers, surgical) and Complex Cataract surgery.  Hailing from Yorkshire and with over 14 years of dedicated experience in Ophthalmology, Ms Cheng’s impressive medical journey began with honours at Guy’s, King’s & St Thomas’ Medical School, King’s College London. Her comprehensive Ophthalmic Specialist Training was meticulously undertaken in Edinburgh, further refined by two advanced fellowships, including at the prestigious Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre.  She is one of only a select few Ophthalmologists in Scotland with expertise in a range of Minimal Invasive Glaucoma Surgeries (MIGS), along with traditional Glaucoma surgeries.

Ms Cheng holds substantive NHS consultant posts at the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion in Edinburgh and the Borders General Hospital in Melrose.

Education and training:
Ms Cheng is actively involved in postgraduate medical education. She serves as an Examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and the University of Edinburgh.  She is an Hononary Clinical Lecturer at the University of Edinburgh, and works as a Clinical Supervisor supporting the training of ophthalmology trainees and glaucoma specialists. She previously served as a trainee representative on the board of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.
