Dr Matthew Thomas

Dr Matthew Thomas is an accomplished Consultant Paediatrician specialising in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine. He provides high-quality, patient-centred care for infants, children, and young people presenting with acute and chronic respiratory disorders. Working as part of a dedicated multidisciplinary healthcare team, Dr Thomas delivers reassuring, holistic support to young patients and their families throughout every stage of assessment, diagnosis, and long-term treatment.

In his clinical practice, Dr Thomas focuses on the management of complex respiratory conditions in children. His specialist interests include cystic fibrosis, long-term ventilation support, and paediatric lung transplantation management. He also treats a broad spectrum of general respiratory concerns, including childhood asthma, severe wheezing, chronic cough, childhood pneumonia, and recurrent chest infections. Through a collaborative approach, Dr Thomas ensures that young patients receive tailored care plans that optimise respiratory health and improve overall quality of life.

Dr Thomas completed his undergraduate medical education in Aberdeen, where he gained initial clinical experience in child health. He subsequently relocated to the North East of England to complete his higher specialist training in Paediatrics and Child Health, before undertaking further sub-specialisation in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine. In addition to his clinical roles as a Consultant Respiratory Paediatrician and Clinical Director, he holds an academic appointment as an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer, actively contributing to clinical research, scientific publications, and the training of future medical professionals.
