Dr Marilyn McDougall

Dr Marilyn McDougall is a dedicated Consultant Paediatrician with a specialist focus on Paediatric Intensive Care. As an experienced Paediatric Intensivist, she provides expert clinical management for critically ill infants, children, and young people experiencing severe acute illnesses and complex emergency conditions. Dr McDougall is deeply committed to delivering high-quality, compassionate care that prioritises the well-being of young patients while providing clear communication and reassuring support to their families during challenging hospital admissions.

Dr McDougall completed her primary medical degree (MBChB) at the University of Cape Town before undertaking specialist paediatric training in South Africa. She obtained a Diploma in Child Health in 1996 and achieved post-graduate recognition as a Fellow of the College of Paediatricians of South Africa. She is also a Member of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, reflecting her formal qualifications and adherence to international clinical standards.

In addition to direct patient care, Dr McDougall holds clinical leadership roles in emergency paediatric retrieval medicine and cardio-respiratory critical care. She has been instrumental in designing and delivering innovative simulation-based education programmes that focus on human factors, team communication, and patient safety in emergency settings. Her academic and research contributions centre on improving outcomes for critically ill children, advancing paediatric transport protocols, and participating in charitable medical initiatives abroad to support paediatric surgical and critical care teams.
