Dr Liam Carroll

Dr Liam Carroll is a highly dedicated Consultant Neurologist who specialises in diagnosing and managing a wide range of neurological conditions. With a compassionate and patient-centred approach, he is committed to providing comprehensive care that is tailored to the unique needs of each individual. Dr Carroll focuses on delivering clear explanations and reassuring support to help patients navigate their neurological health journeys with confidence.

His primary clinical interests lie in neuromuscular disorders and neurogenetics. Dr Carroll has extensive expertise in managing complex conditions affecting the muscles and nerves, including muscular dystrophies, inflammatory myopathies, and hereditary neuropathies. Additionally, he is deeply involved in the care of individuals with neurogenetic disorders, such as mitochondrial disorders, hereditary ataxia, hereditary spastic paraparesis, motor neurone disease, and leukodystrophy. He also provides specialised assessment for rare, syndromic neurological conditions, including suspected Von Hippel-Lindau syndrome, and is experienced in performing muscle biopsies.

Dr Carroll completed his medical training at Cardiff University, graduating with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBCh) with commendation in 2014. Prior to his medical degree, he earned a first-class Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience in 2003 and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the Department of Psychological Medicine and Neurology in 2006, both from Cardiff University. He is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP). Dr Carroll is actively engaged in professional organisations, serving as a member of the Association of British Neurologists Neuromuscular Advisory Group and participating in the British Peripheral Nerve Society, where his clinical presentations have been recognised with prestigious awards.
