Mr Joseph Wasson

Joseph Wasson was appointed to consultant Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) surgeon at East Kent Hospitals in 2016. He is now one of the leading otologists (ear surgeon) in Kent, specialising in complex ear surgery, hearing implant surgery, hearing loss, tinnitus, dizziness and balance.  Joseph also has considerable experience and expertise in treating a wide range of paediatric and adult general ENT conditions including rhinology and sinus surgery.

Joseph graduated from University College London (UCL) and trained as an ENT registrar in the East of England.  During his training Joseph completed an MBA higher degree at Warwick Business School, which he passed with distinction.  Before embarking on his consultant career, Joseph completed three prestigious and internationally respected fellowships in Cambridge, UK and Melbourne, Australia, which further enhanced his knowledge and skills in complex ear surgery, balance medicine, hearing implant surgery and skull base surgery.  In 2024, Joseph completed a four month consultant sabbatical in Wellington, New Zealand, where he performed complex otology, including cochlear implantation and skull base surgery.  He was offered a permanent appointment to stay,  but decided  to return home to the UK.

Within the NHS, Joseph was lead clinician for the ENT department at East Kent Hospitals (2021-2024) and delivered significant improvements to the ENT service after the Covid-19 pandemic.  He is currently lead ENT clinician for the Kent and Medway integrated Care Board (K&M ICB), and In this capacity, Joseph is reforming and improving ENT, otology and hearing implant services across Kent.

Joseph has extensively published his research and presented this work both nationally and internationally.  He has been awarded a number of prizes and scholarships in recognition of his achievements from respected institutions including the Royal Society of Medicine; The British Association of Otorhinolaryngologists and Head and Neck Surgeons; and the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

Joseph lives in Whitstable with his wife and two children.  He enjoys running, cycling and paddle boarding and regularly completes half and full marathons.
