About

Dr Roos is a London-based consultant eye surgeon specialising in periocular reconstructive and adnexal surgery as well as high-volume cataract surgery.

He is a full member of the British Oculoplastic Surgical Society and the European Society of Oculoplastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ESOPRS), having just handed over the presidency of its young section. Previously he was Chief Resident on the Cambridge Health Partners programme, sat on the UK Royal College Training Committee, and was the senior adnexal and orbital fellow at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London.

Jonathan is Swedish but grew up in Switzerland and France. He trained at the University of Cambridge and was selected for its highly competitive combined MD/PhD programme. His thesis research, performed at both Cambridge and Harvard University was recognized by awards from the American Society for Hematology, the American Neurological Association and the University of Cambridge's two-yearly Gedge Prize.

Clinically his ophthalmology board exam performance was the 2nd highest score in Europe and his clinical research won prizes from the British Oculoplastic Surgical Society (publication award 2019) as well as the International Thyroid Eye Disease Society (best presentation 2019). Last year he was an invited speaker for both the American Academy of Ophthalmology, ESOPRS, KKESH, RCO Congress, DOG and will lecture as external Professor for the Mario Negri Institute's Masters programme in Bergamo. He has published in excess of 50 papers including in leading journals such as the BMJ, Lancet and NEJM.

Jonathan is an "out-of-the-box" thinker and is passionate about sustainability and fairness: he has acted as both an OECD government and pharma industry advisor on orphan drug costs, artificial intelligence and rural African health care – all to promote equitable access to care. He has pioneered oculoplastic efforts to tackle climate change and operated with a Harvard surgical team in rural Uganda.

He is a passionate father to Emil & Teddy and husband to Hanna. He is a keen sailor and part of a circumnavigating race team.

Professor Jonathan Roos is an exemplary surgeon who is very honest and caring. You are in safe hands with him and like his partner Dr Murphy is very moral and will only perform surgery if he thinks he can make a positive difference.

From start to finish my experience with Face restoration, Jonathan and Rachnu has been seamless. As an anxiety sufferer I was nervous about Blepharoplasty, however, Jonathan put me at ease with his professionalism, compassion and patience. I found Jonathan communicative and informative, I was put at ease throughout. I am over the moon with the results, my confidence has gone through the roof and I receive compliments wherever I go I think it’s one of the best decisions I have made. I would highly recommend.

Explanation

I met Jonathan Roos following an accident which left me disfigured. He could not have been more available, professional, clear, informative and reassuring at a time when I was fearful and in unknown territory. The injuries were not life changing, but the first hour with Dr Roos was. His breadth of vision put me on the right path. I would consult with him again.
