Dr Janaka Karalliedde

Dr Janaka Karalliedde is a highly accomplished Consultant Physician in Diabetes and Endocrinology and Professor of Diabetes. He specialises in the comprehensive care of patients with complex metabolic and endocrine conditions, with particular focus on type 1 and type 2 diabetes as well as associated heart and kidney complications. Dedicated to delivering empathetic and structured medical care, Dr Karalliedde works closely with each individual to formulate proactive treatment strategies that promote early intervention, long-term health, and overall well-being.

Dr Karalliedde completed his medical training with distinction at the University of London, where he subsequently earned a Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) investigating the pathophysiology and treatment of cardiovascular and renal disease in diabetes. His clinical research trajectory was supported by a Medical Research Council Clinical Research Training Fellowship. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Beyond his clinical practice, Dr Karalliedde holds key educational and leadership roles with major professional organisations, including the European Association for the Study of Diabetes, the European Federation of Internal Medicine, the Association of British Clinical Diabetologists, and the UK Kidney Association.
