About
Consultant Clinical Oncologist Dr James Wilson specialises in the treatment of thoracic malignancies (non-small cell lung cancer, small-cell lung cancer, mesothelioma, thymoma). He also provides skin cancer radiotherapy (basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma).
Dr Wilson received a Cancer Research UK/Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council fellowship and undertook his PhD at the University of Oxford in 2015. He then trained at the Royal Marsden Hospital and, in 2016, was awarded the National Institute for Health Research Clinical Lectureship position at The Institute of Cancer Research.
He is a fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists and a member of the Royal College of Physicians.
He is a key member of the oligometastatic multi-disciplinary team (MDT) and provides stereotactic radiotherapy for primary and secondary lung tumours, as well as metastases to the spine, bone, and other locations. He represents clinical oncology at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery's specialist spinal tumour MDT.
Dr Wilson has worked at several of London's most prestigious cancer centres. He works at University College London Hospital as a Consultant Clinical Oncologist and is an Associate Professor at UCL, leading research to enhance patient treatment outcomes.

Whilst I wouldn’t wish lung cancer on my worst enemy , if you have it try and see Dr Wilson. Not only is he an extremely well qualified Clinical Oncologist , he’s also a thoroughly decent human being . He explained all the available treatment options in a way that was easy to understand and he patiently answered all my ( and my wife’s ) questions honestly. Dr Wilson always made me feel that I was dealing with someone who’s at the very top of his game .

Dr Wilson's clinical knowledge and expertise is second to none. He is very personable and has a great understanding of the anxiety patients are experiencing. He always has time to explain the journey ahead and treatment that will be delivered. Following my consultation I felt confident the I was going to receive the best possible care and treatment. Both during and after my radiotherapy I felt fully supported by Dr Wilson and his team.

At all times James is excellent. He is open and trustworthy and avoids speaking in jargon. He provides a very high level of care - you would never believe he had other patients to deal with. Given that interactions with him are inevitably about difficult issues and he cannot always deliver good news he is fantastic to deal with. He is also very responsive at all times of day and really puts himself out to help his patients as best he can

I feel very lucky to have Dr Wilson as my clinical oncologist and I have enjoyed meeting him. He struck me as extremely able and he was very happy to explain my treatment to me in detail. Overall, I had the impression that my radiotherapy treatment was meticulously planned and executed.
