Mr James Bourne

Mr James Bourne is a highly regarded Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon who specialises in spinal surgery. With a patient-centred approach, he is dedicated to helping individuals regain their mobility and manage spinal pain effectively. He provides comprehensive care for a wide range of spinal conditions, utilising both conservative management pathways and advanced surgical interventions. His practice is characterised by clear communication, ensuring that patients and their families are fully informed and supported throughout their treatment journey.

Mr Bourne qualified as a Doctor in 2001 from Birmingham University Medical School, obtaining his MB ChB. He completed his basic surgical training in the West Midlands before gaining valuable international experience working as a trauma and orthopaedic Registrar in New Zealand. Upon returning to the United Kingdom, he completed his higher surgical training on the North West training scheme. He further refined his expertise through specialist spinal fellowships, serving as a Senior Trainee at a major spinal unit in Salford and a regional NHS foundation trust. He holds the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS Tr & Orth) and is a member of the General Medical Council and the British Association of Spine Surgeons.

In his clinical practice, Mr Bourne focuses on complex surgeries of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. He is highly skilled in performing advanced procedures such as cervical disc replacement, anterior cervical decompression and fusion, lumbar microdiscectomy, and lumbar spine fusion. He has a particular interest in minimally invasive surgical techniques, including eXtreme Lateral Interbody Fusion (XLIF), which aim to reduce recovery times and improve patient outcomes.
