About Mr Andreas Baumann
Mr Andreas Baumann is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with specialist expertise in hand, shoulder and elbow surgery. He currently practises across Chorley, Preston and Bolton, where he provides comprehensive care for a wide range of upper limb conditions.
Mr Baumann completed his medical education at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, passing his State Medical Examination in 2003 - he was awarded a research doctorate (MD) in 2007 with 'Magna cum Laude' . He completd his medical internship in Cape Town and later pursued postgraduate surgical training in the UK, obtaining Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (MRCSEd) in 2008.
His early surgical training was undertaken at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals, followed by specialist orthopaedic training in the North West of England. In 2013, he was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS Orth) and went on to receive further training in Trauma and Hand surgery in South Africa in 2013. Mr Baumann completed his specialist fellowships in Shoulder and Elbow surgery at Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport and at the Royal Bristol Infirmary from 2015 to 2017 - he was appointed Consultant in Upper Limb Surgeon at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals in April 2017.
Mr Baumann has an active interest in teaching and research, having published nine peer-reviewed papers and contributed several book chapters to international publications. He is currently the Clinical Governance Lead for Orthopaedics at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.
His clinical interests include rotator cuff injuries, shoulder and elbow replacement surgery, carpal and cubital tunnel syndromes, trigger finger, and complex hand and wrist surgery.

Greeted by Mr.Baumann, asked how recovery was going, answered few questions then discharged.
The whole experience has been calm and I have felt at ease at all appointments and when I had the carpal tunnel decompression procedure. I can only thank all the staff from the front desk, nurses, catering (who kindly buttered my toast when my hand was out of action!), the porter and most of all Mr Baumann for such a lovely manner and level of care. Beaumont hospital has been a very good experience and I would recommend it.
I had a very good and successful surgery. Mr Andreas Baumann has done very good work on my hand, he is an excellent hand surgeon. I didn’t suffer any pain during the surgery or during the recovery of my hand and aftercare. I didn’t have to take any kind of the pain killers at all.
Following recent arm surgery I felt Mr Baumann made me feel reassured that surgery had gone well. I felt at ease during the appointment allowing me to ask questions in which he responded with clear advice.
Dr Baumann is a fantastic surgeon when I first had my consultation he was very calm and explained everything to me very clearly. He gave me his advice and explained the positives and negatives of choosing weather to have surgery or not. I decided I wanted to have the surgery and I am very glad I did. I can't thank Dr Baumann enough for his skill and expertise as a surgeon before my operation I looked scars for the particular surgery I was having online, they were often large and many times there was more than one but Dr Baumann did it all and has left one small neat scar on my forearm. the way he has treated me every step of the way I am very thankful he was my surgeon. I'd like to thank Dr Baumann and everyone and Preston and Chorley hospital.
Mr Baumann listened carefully to my explanation of my symptoms and immediately initiated an action plan. He was able to answer all my questions and dealt with me professionally and courteously
As always, Mr Baumann was kind and considerate. He explained what was needed very clearly and provided a pathway forward.
