Ms Irene Athanasiou

Ms Irene Athanasiou is a Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon in London, specialising in the diagnosis and surgical management of benign and malignant breast conditions. Her clinical interests include breast surgery, oncoplastic surgery, breast reconstruction, breast cancer and breast pain.

She graduated with honours from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland before completing specialist surgical training across London and Yorkshire. Ms Athanasiou is based at Whittington Hospital and also works with specialist teams at University College London Hospital and the Royal Free Hospital. Her approach combines breast cancer surgery with reconstructive techniques, with treatment planned according to each patient's individual clinical needs.

Ms Athanasiou is involved in national research and clinical trials in breast cancer. She also holds educational and tutoring responsibilities at UCL and works as an educational and clinical supervisor for Foundation Year doctors. She established a dedicated Breast Pain Service in North Central London to provide specialist care for patients experiencing breast pain.
