Dr Helen Leonard

Dr Helen Leonard is an experienced Consultant Paediatrician and Consultant in Paediatric Neurodisability who provides compassionate, patient-focused care for infants, children, and young people. Specialising in paediatric neurodevelopmental conditions, she focuses on supporting children with complex physical, cognitive, and developmental needs alongside their families. Her clinical approach relies on thorough assessments and tailored care strategies designed to enhance quality of life and long-term health outcomes for young patients facing complex challenges.

Dr Leonard possesses expertise in assessing and managing a broad spectrum of childhood neurodisabilities and developmental conditions. Her clinical focus includes pre-school autism spectrum assessments, intellectual disabilities, developmental delay, and complex neurodisabilities. Working within a multidisciplinary framework, she collaborates closely with speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and specialist nurses to deliver coordinated, holistic care. She also maintains a strong professional interest in addressing health inequalities and improving multi-agency care structures for children with high support needs.

Dr Leonard completed her initial medical education, earning a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) together with a Bachelor of Medical Science with Honours (BMedSci Hons). She holds a Diploma in Paediatric Neurodisability (DipPaedNeurodis) and gained membership of the Royal College of Physicians in Paediatrics (MRCP Paediatrics). Additionally, she is a Member of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (MRCPCH). Beyond her direct clinical duties, she has contributed to clinical education as an Associate Lecturer and served in national advisory roles dedicated to advancing paediatric care standards.
