Dr Giovanni Mariscalco

Mr. Giovanni Mariscalio is a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon with over a decade of experience in cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery. He sees private patients at the BMI Park Hospital.

Mr. Mariscalio earned his medical doctorate in Italy, from the University of Insubria School of Medicine in 2001, after which he earned his Ph.D. in Sweden, from the University of Umea in 2008. He later gained his doctorate in Surgery and Biotechnology in 2011. During this time, he also undertook and completed his cardiac surgery, clinical fellowship, in Sweden, at the Umea University Hospital Heart Centre. He then began his cardiac surgery residency at Varese University Hospital University of Insurbia, Italy.

Since his Consultant appointment, Mr. Mariscalio has performed over 2500 heart surgeries, including complex thoracic aorta surgery and also congenital heart diseases. He is also an active member of the research community and has authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications in renowned medical journals, including the England Journal of Medicine and JAMA. He has also presented his research at national and international conferences and has co-authored chapters for medical textbooks. Mr. Mariscaloco has also been made an Honorary Associate Professor of Cardiac Surgery at the University of Leicester.
