Dr George Kirby

Dr George Kirby is a Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgeon who provides high-quality, patient-centred care within General Surgery. He is committed to delivering comprehensive assessment and individualised treatment plans tailored to each patient's specific health needs. Combining clinical expertise with a reassuring approach, Dr Kirby ensures patients feel well-supported, informed, and comfortable throughout their surgical care journey.

Dr Kirby maintains a clinical focus on minimally invasive weight-loss procedures and upper gastrointestinal surgical interventions. His clinical work includes keyhole bariatric procedures such as laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and gastric bypass surgery, as well as gastric balloon procedures and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. In addition to bariatric care, Dr Kirby routinely manages benign upper gastrointestinal conditions, including gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, hiatus hernias, and gallstone pathology, alongside emergency general surgical care.

Dr Kirby obtained his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MB ChB) medical degree before undertaking higher surgical training, followed by a dedicated specialist fellowship in bariatric surgery. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) and an active member of the British Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society (BOMSS). Beyond his direct clinical duties, Dr Kirby serves as an Honorary Clinical Lecturer, training junior doctors and surgical trainees, and contributes to published research focused on enhancing quality and safety standards in bariatric surgery.
