Dr Gary Middleton

Dr Gary Middleton is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with extensive experience in women’s health and obstetric care. He graduated with an MB ChB from the University of Dundee in 2009 and was awarded Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG) in 2017. He currently practises at St John’s Hospital, Livingston, where he provides specialist care across a broad range of obstetric and gynaecological conditions.

Dr Middleton is particularly passionate about delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. His clinical interests include benign gynaecology, laparoscopic surgery, pelvic floor repair, hysteroscopy, and high-risk obstetrics, with a special focus on diabetes in pregnancy.

He has a strong commitment to service improvement and quality assurance, leading a number of quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing outpatient hysteroscopy and obstetric services. His work has contributed to the development of local clinical guidelines and improvements in patient experience. Dr Middleton has also contributed to medical literature through peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and textbook authorship.

Outside medicine, he is a dedicated endurance athlete, having completed several marathons and a triathlon. Alongside this he has participated in fundraising expeditions climbing Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Rinjani in support of women’s health initiatives.
