Dr Fiona McDonald

Dr Fiona McDonald is a highly respected Consultant Clinical Oncologist specialising in the non-surgical management of thoracic cancers. With extensive clinical expertise, she focuses on delivering compassionate, patient-centred care that incorporates the latest advancements in radiation therapy and oncology research. Dr McDonald works closely within multidisciplinary clinical teams to ensure each patient receives a comprehensive, individualised care plan tailored to their specific diagnosis and personal needs.

Her main area of clinical interest centres on thoracic malignancies, particularly lung cancer and oligometastatic disease. Dr McDonald is a recognised authority on stereotactic ablative body radiotherapy, a highly precise treatment modality that delivers focused radiation to tumours while minimising damage to surrounding healthy tissues. She routinely utilises advanced techniques such as image-guided adaptive radiotherapy and intensity-modulated radiation therapy, alongside combining radiotherapy with modern immunotherapy and targeted biological therapies to achieve optimal treatment outcomes.

Dr McDonald earned a first-class honours degree in Medical Sciences from the University of Cambridge in 1994 before completing her primary medical qualification at the University of London in 1997. She subsequently completed specialist postgraduate training in Clinical Oncology and went on to earn a higher research degree (MD). She holds Membership of the Royal College of Physicians and Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists. In addition to her clinical practice, Dr McDonald is actively involved in international clinical trials and holds key leadership roles within professional organisations, including the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology and the British Thoracic Oncology Group.
