Dr Emma Footitt

Dr Emma Footitt is a Consultant Paediatrician who specialises in Paediatric Metabolic Medicine. She provides comprehensive, reassuring, and expert care for infants, children, and young people presenting with complex metabolic conditions and rare genetic disorders. Working alongside multidisciplinary healthcare professionals, Dr Footitt focuses on providing clear diagnostic guidance and individualised care plans tailored to each child's unique health needs.

Dr Footitt qualified with her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MB BS) from the University of London in 2000, following the completion of an intercalated Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Psychology in 1997. She subsequently advanced her academic and clinical expertise, earning a Master of Science (MSc) from the Institute of Child Health at University College London and completing a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at University College London in 2013. Her postgraduate pathway encompasses extensive general paediatric training alongside higher specialist clinical training in paediatric metabolic medicine.

Within her clinical practice, Dr Footitt maintains a strong focus on rare neurometabolic disorders, lipid metabolism conditions, and vitamin B6-dependent epilepsies. Having focused her doctoral research on vitamin B6-dependent epilepsies, she continues to lead international clinical consensus guidelines and collaborative research initiatives aimed at improving therapeutic outcomes and developing child-friendly formulations. She is also actively involved in evaluating advanced clinical treatments, including enzyme replacement therapies for lysosomal storage disorders.
