Dr Em Perera

Dr Em Perera is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist based at Priory Hospital Ticehurst. She qualified in 2006, and has been working at the Priory outpatient services since 2017. Dr Perera is a highly skilled and qualified professional, with years of experience working in diverse settings both in the UK and overseas.

Dr Perera works with adults, young people, couples and families who are experiencing distress. She has an excellent understanding of mental health issues and can offer evidence-based psychological therapies that are tailored to your individual needs. Dr Perera has the ability to help you or your family overcome any challenges you may be facing, and always works with the utmost compassion and care. She is committed to working closely with you to help you gain a greater understanding of yourself, the patterns of behaviour that are no longer serving your best interests, and introducing skills to help you change these behaviours so that you can lead a more fulfilling life.

Dr Perera is highly qualified and is trained in many aspects of psychology. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Neurophysiology and a Master's degree in Development Studies; she also has two Postgraduate Diplomas in Psychology and Systemic Therapy. Furthermore, Dr Perera has completed a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. She is a qualified Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapist and has completed numerous ACT specialisation courses including working with cancer cases, working with families and adolescents, working trans-diagnostically and working in the workplace.

Dr Perara has also been active in research, with her main research interests being the therapeutic role of foster carers, the role of early childhood attachment and beliefs about self-efficacy, systemic work with young people in post-conflict environments, and the delivery of ACT training courses in community settings. She is registered with the HCPC, British Psychological Society (BPS) and the Association for Contextual Behavioural Science (ACBS).
