About

Dr Wedatilake is a Consultant in Sport & Exercise Medicine. He has held NHS consultant posts, at Leicestershire NHS Trust and Oxford University NHS Trust, since completing his consultant training in 2012 in Oxford. He has since worked in sports and musculoskeletal medicine clinics for a number of years, including both NHS and private clinics. Additionally, he has a master's degree in musculoskeletal ultrasound, and was previously the lead for Musculoskeletal Ultrasound at the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine.

He was the lead 1st team doctor for Southampton Football Club and currently is a specialist medical consultant to the club. He is also a member of the England and Wales Cricket Board's medical panel being the lead doctor for the England Womens Cricket Programme.

Previously he has worked for the English Institution of Sport, assessing Olympic and Paralympic athletes. He was the basketball venue lead doctor at the 2012 London Olympic Games.

He has expertise in managing any sports related injuries, and general musculoskeletal problems. He prides himself in providing patients with professional, personalised service and makes sure that patients feel at ease to discuss issues that concern them.

He continues to conduct research through Oxford University, with a special interest in hip and groin pain and muscle injuries in athletes. He is married with two wonderful daughters.
