About Dr Richard Jones

Professional Background

I am a Consultant Cardiologist and Cardiac Imaging Lead at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, providing expert cardiology care to patients across both NHS and private practice. I specialise in the assessment and management of a wide range of cardiovascular conditions, with particular expertise in advanced non-invasive cardiac imaging, including echocardiography, cardiac MRI and CT coronary angiography.

My Approach to Patient Care

My approach is centred on delivering a clear diagnosis as quickly as possible. Whether patients are experiencing chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations, dizziness or blackouts, I believe in combining careful clinical assessment with the most appropriate diagnostic investigations to provide timely reassurance or effective treatment. By overseeing the entire diagnostic pathway, I aim to minimise unnecessary referrals and offer a streamlined, consultant-led experience from the first appointment through to ongoing care.

Research and Education

Alongside my clinical practice, I remain actively involved in cardiovascular research and medical education. I am committed to ensuring that my patients benefit from evidence-based care informed by the latest advances in cardiology, while maintaining a personalised, compassionate approach that places their individual needs at the centre of every consultation. I complete my PhD at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London, where my research focused on mitochondrial function in ischaemic heart disease and the prediction of sudden cardiac death. My work was recognised with a Young Investigator Award at the 2021 European Society of Cardiology Congress. I remain actively involved in research as Chief Investigator of the Essex Heart Registry.

Dr Richard Jones was simply superb. Careful, detailed, patient to explain things and also able to quickly asses my ability to comprehend what he’s saying and talk to me at an appropriate level (unlike some doctors who can be either condescending or apparently unaware that they are talking past my ability to follow them). I was extremely grateful for his overall approach - working with me to achieve a management plan that makes sense and leaves me reassured that I’m making wise choices about my health. A big thank you to the Cleveland for having doctors like him on hand!
