About Dr Rebecca Liu
Dr. Rebecca Liu is a highly regarded consultant neurologist at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, where she is the Neuroscience Postrgraduate Training Lead and Functional Neurological Disorders lead.
She also provides private care at The Physicians' Clinic, Devonshire Street, and the Private Patients Unit at the Royal Free Hospital . She specialises in managing first seizures, complex refractory epilepsy, blackouts, functional dissociative seizures and medically unexplained symptoms with vast experience treating a wide range of other neurological conditions such as headaches, tremor, dizziness, neuropathy, parkinson's disease and memory problems.
Dr Liu runs general neurology, specialist epilepsy and functional dissociative seizure clinics at her NHS practices. She has close working relationships with primary care professionals and played a key role in setting up a community-based epilepsy service as well as a dedicated functional dissociative seizures service at the Royal Free Hospital.
Dr Liu undertook medical training at Guys and St. Thomas' Hospitals and qualified as a doctor in 1994. She also gained a first class intercalated BSc Hons degree in psychology from University College London. She then trained at the National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery (NHNN), Queen Square, and went on to complete specialist epilepsy training at various renowned centres, including the Chalfont Centre for Epilepsy. She was awarded a PhD in Neurosciences from UCL in 2004 for research into the impact of epilepsy on the human brain.
She continues to be involved in research into epilepsy, and her work has been published in prestigious peer-reviewed journals. She is passionate about teaching and postgraduate training. Her outstanding achievements have seen her receive both the Charles Symonds Prize (Association of British Neurologists)and Young Investigator Award (American Epilepsy Society).
