Dr Nikhil Sharma

Dr Sharma is a Consultant Neurologist and Senior Clinical Research at UCL. In 2007 he was awarded a PhD by the University of Cambridge where his thesis used motor imagery and functional magnetic imaging to explore neuroplasticity and neurodegeneration in large-scale motor networks.

His clinical training in Neurology took him to America where he worked on transcranial magnetic stimulation, functional resting state fMRI and structural imaging to better understand plasticity of the human motor system. His research program brings together these skills to develop an innovative approach to better understand diseases of the motor system. He combines system level neuroscience with life course epidemiology with the aim to better understand plasticity of the motor system and its response to neurodegenerative diseases.
