Dr Mustafa Khan is a Consultant in Endocrinology and Diabetes, appointed as a Consultant Physician at Bedford Hospital in 2014. His clinical practice includes management of a wide range of endocrine disorders as well as acute medical inpatients. His main areas of interest are the management of diabetes in young people, transitional care for diabetes and endocrine problems, insulin pump treatment and management of thyroid, parathyroid and pituitary disorders. He also runs general diabetes and endocrine clinics, young adult diabetes clinics and a transition clinic for young people with diabetes at Bedford Hospital.
Dr Khan qualified in 1997 from Dr B A Marathwada University, India, moving to the UK in 2001 to undertake postgraduate medical training at various hospitals. His basic specialist training took place at the Lincoln County Hospital, where he also completed a Senior House Officer medical rotation for 3 years and received an MRCP in 2006. He then worked at the Cheltenham General hospital, as a Clinical Fellow (Registrar) in Endocrinology and Diabetes, for 2 years. Dr Khan subsequently joined the Cambridge rotation in the East of England deanery to receive higher specialist training in Endocrinology and Diabetes for the next 5 years.
During his training, he worked at Addenbrookes University Hospital, Cambridge, Luton and Dunstable Hospital and Bedford Hospital. He obtained an MRCP (Endocrinology and Diabetes) in Feb 2014 pursuant to his CCT (Certificate of Completion of Training) in the speciality. He has also earned a postgraduate diploma in diabetes from Cardiff University.
