I'm an award-winning general adult psychiatrist who works with adults. I am trained both in psychopharmacology (using medication) and in cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), a type of psychotherapy (talking therapy). I am a Principal Clinical Research Fellow at University College London (UCL) where I lead a research group. In the NHS I work at the Traumatic Stress Clinic at St Pancras Hospital and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. I regularly lecture at UCL and I have been invited to lecture internationally. I teach students in medicine, psychology and the neurosciences, as well as doctors undertaking specialist post-graduate training in psychiatry.
I am particularly interested in treating depression, psychosis and schizoprenia spectrum disorders, post-traumatic stress disorders (PTSD) including Complex PTSD and dissociation, anxiety disorders and people who struggle with regulating their own emotions and maintaining stable relationships. I have an interest in neuropsychiatry. I am also interested in helping people who are neurodiverse, have difficulties with attention inlucluding ADHD and people who are on the autistic spectrum.
I have published over 100 articles in leading peer-reviewed journals including Nature, the Lancet Psychiatry, World Psychiatry and the British Medical Journal.
I undertook my medical degree at the University of Oxford, before working in London and the Channel Islands. As a junior doctor I worked as an air ambulance doctor - which I loved. I went on to train in psychiatry at Charing Cross Hospital and later became a Medical Research Council clinical research fellow at Hammersmith Hospital where I did a PhD in Clinical Medicine at Imperial College London. I am a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. I have built up a wealth of experience in the NHS, including community mental health, acute in-patient psychiatry, treatment-resistant psychosis, severe mental illness, crisis resolution and helping people with personality disorder diagnoses. I have advanced training in enhanced cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) from the University of Oxford. I have a certificate in Psychopharmacology from the British Association for Psychopharmacology. I am an approved clinician under section 12 of the Mental Health Act.

Professor Michael Bloomfield is helpful to patients. He gives support for many conditions. This includes medication management. He teaches skills and provides diagnoses, notably for neurodiversity. His care benefits those with anxiety disorder, depression, ADHD, and those undergoing cognitive behavioural therapy.
Dr Bloomfield was excellent, attentive and precise in his manner and questions, and O was able to speak freely.
Professor Bloomfield is an exceptional psychiatrist. He balances professional expertise with a very kind, human touch. I never feel rushed during our appointments; he is patient with my questions and always provides well-rounded, informative feedback. He doesn't just provide a service; he provides a thoughtful partnership in mental health. I feel much more confident in my journey thanks to his guidance.
Professor Bloomfield totally understands severe depression which I suffer from. I take medication and he monitors that and any side effects. He also makes sure that I get physical health checks. Physical health can sometimes get neglected with a mental illness but he makes sure that I stay physically well as well as treating the mental illness.
The last visit I expressed anger to lack of movement on my case and was disappointed that Dr Bloomfield suggested potentially finding another doctor

Professor Bloomfield is kind, patient, positive and clearly an expert in his field. I honestly don't know where I would be without his support and expertise. I have seen other psychiatrists, who were good, but Professor Bloomfield has been a class above. I feel much healthier than when I had my first appointment with him and I'm really grateful for this. He is kind and humble and I have never once felt like he has talked down to me, which is a wonderful quality.

He has very clear communication for mental illness. There is continuity of care at his practice so he can tell if someone is becoming unwell again. I am happy that he is looking after my medication for the mental illness and also monitoring my physical health. In my opinion he is a very good psychiatrist.
