About
Dr Maxton Pitcher is a Consultant Physician and Gastroenterologist and sees private patients at The Clementine Hospital and also at OneWelbeck Digestive Health. His NHS base is at the internationally-respected St Mark's Hospital, a specialist centre for digestive diseases at Northwick Park in Harrow. He is renowned for being a highly-experienced diagnostician and for his specialist expertise in therapeutic upper GI endoscopy and ERCP. He has a clinical research interest in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and general Gastroenterology interests including undiagnosed abdominal pain, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and eosinophilic oesophagitis. He is available for face-to-face consultations and welcomes referrals for a second opinion in difficult cases. Telephone and video consultations are also available and can be booked via his private secretary, Melinda Ziff. A bespoke service is available upon request.
Dr Pitcher trained in Medical Sciences at the University of Cambridge and later qualified from the University of Oxford in 1988. He completed a Doctorate of Medicine at the University of Cambridge in 1996. He was elected as Chairman of Medicine at St Mark's by his colleagues in 2007 and Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee at BMI The Clementine Churchill Hospital in 2010.
Maxton is an accomplished classical violinist and Concertmaster of the European Doctors Orchestra. He has featured on the Sky News Kay Burley Show and his musical videos of live performance to patients during the COVID-19 pandemic have been seen by hundreds of thousands on-line all over the world. He is also a keen golfer, SCUBA diver and occasional horse rider.

This is my third Colonoscopy with Dr Pitcher at the One Welbeck Centre. I am thoroughly impressed and satisfied with the whole process end to end. Dr Pitcher is a highly intelligent and trusted professional who takes the utmost care and provides a thoughtful approach to his work. I am at ease, comfort and feel most re-assured with Dr Pitchers guidance, treatment plan and educated judgement. Dr Pitcher after looking over my history and symptoms was quick to identify what the route cause was, while he did do test to rule out and put my kind at ease. He started me on a course and provided guidance I needed to recover quickly. By the second visit his analysis and suspension was validated by the test. Put me on short course of medication and gave lifestyle change recommendations, which has resulted a really good outcome for me.
