Dr Julian Stern

Dr Julian Stern is a Consultant Psychiatrist and Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist based in London. He specialises psychological distress in a medical setting, assessment for psychotherapy and eating disorders.

He trained in psychiatry and psychoanalytic psychotherapy in both South Africa and the UK. He worked at St Mark's Hospital for 17 years and developed the Psychological Medicine Unit for gastrointestinal disorders. In 2010 he was appointed as Consultant Psychiatrist in Psychotherapy at the Tavistock Clinic, where he is the Psychiatric Consultant in the PCPCS (City and Hackney Primary Care Consultation Service). He is also a senior staff member in the Complex Needs Service, and the Psychiatric lead for Specialist Adult services.

Dr Stern has been published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and is the co-editor of the popular textbook Core Psychiatry. He is a Clinical Member of the British Psychotherapy Foundation and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCPsych). He also sits on the Public Education Committee for the Royal College of Psychiatrists and is a College Assessor.
