Dr Jay Suntharalingam was appointed as a Consultant in 2007 at Royal United Hospital following a period of specialist training, both in the South West and in Papworth Hospital where he completed a research degree in Pulmonary Hypertension. Prior to this Dr Suntharalingam qualified in London and worked in a number of respiratory units, including St George's Hospital, St Thomas' Hospital and the Royal Brompton
Dr Suntharalingam has been Clinical Lead for the RUH Respiratory Department since 2014. He is also Director of the regional Bath-Royal Free Pulmonary service that he set up in 2008. He is local lead for COPD, and has helped co-author national guidance on Home Oxygen and Pumonary Embolic disease. He is currently on the British Thoracic Society Council. In recent years he has further developed his research interests and now leads a research programme with the University of Bath where he is a visiting Senior Lecturer
In his spare time Dr Suntharalingam enjoys spending time with his young family, playing the violin in a local amateur orchestra and long distance running, having completed a number of marathons.
