Dr George Bownes is an experienced Sports Injury & Musculoskeletal Doctor who himself is a sports enthusiast and endurance athlete who has completed numerous marathons, ultras, Ironmans and multi-day stage races whose own understanding of injuries has enriched his work as a Physician.
He has worked extensively within Military rehabilitation units around the UK including the Defence Military Rehabilitation Centres in Headley Court and Standford Hall leading a wide ranging multi-disciplinary team in rehabilitating complex musculoskeletal injuries.
Dr Bownes has previously worked with Premiership Football Clubs (Chelsea and Southampton), the English Institute of Sport working with many British Olympic Athletes as well as British Skeleton who won 3 medals including Gold at the 2018 Winter Olympics. As Lead Doctor at Harlequins Rugby Club he helped the Club win the Gallagher Premiership in 2021. He has since 2018 worked as a Tournament Physician to the Players at The All England Lawn Tennis Club, Wimbledon for The Championships.

I came to Dr Bownes for a second opinion on two MRIs of my knee. He did not provide a clear response to whether my ACL was damaged despite repeatedly asking him, and he did not seem worried my knee pain was left undiagnosed. I did not feel my concerns were heard during or after the meeting, or that he looked at the MRIs carefully, and he seemed to have made up his mind before looking at them. Dr. Bownes did not seem very interested in my case.

Excellent experience. Dr. Bownes was compassionate and thorough. He diagnosed the route of a long standing injury within our first session. By my third appointment, my pain is gone.

I’ve been very much impressed by the level of service from Dr. Bownes and would highly recommend him to anyone. He is kind, patient, compassionate and extremely knowledgeable. I felt safe and reassured throughout the entirety of the process; he took the time to go through all of the test results and explain them in layman’s terms. Dr Bownes genuinely care about his patients and is no doubt, one of the best at what he does.
