About Mr Derek John Boyle
Mr. Derek Boyle is a consultant colorectal surgeon based at the Cleveland Clinic in London, where he specialises in colonoscopy, colorectal cancer surgery, and laparoscopic colorectal surgery.
He gained his medical and immunology degree in 2002 from Glasgow University before training in Edinburgh. He then moved to London to study pelvic floor disorders as part of his MD (Res), which he completed at the Royal London Hospital. His higher training took place in North West Thames, and he went on to complete colorectal fellowships at St. Mark's Hospital and the colorectal unit at the Western General Hospital.
Mr. Boyle has been based at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust since 2016, and he was appointed as the clinical lead for colorectal surgery for the trust in 2021.
He lives with his wife in North London and is a keen runner, completing marathons in a number of different countries.

Nurse Julie Horlick has provided me with the most incredible support and care throughout my visits and treatment. Particularly when I experienced what I would describe as very difficult moments, she was always there to comfort, reassure, and remind me how strong I am in order to get through this difficult time, which is why I believe I have developed a positive mindset as I approach the end of my journey.
This was a very traumatic time for me to learn that I had cancer of the colon and needed an operation. I received very good communication, verbal as well as literature from the Team and Mr Boyle. I was kept informed at every stage of the treatment pathway which made me feel confident and reassured about the treatment and professional care I received. Mr Boyle and is team provided me with excellent service and treatment.
