Prof Deepak Ravindran is a Honorary professor at Teesside University and Consultant in Pain Medicine and Lifestyle Medicine and the Director/Founder of the Berkshire Pain Clinic. He is a noted national and international speaker/author and innovative leader.
He has over 20 years of experience in the clinical field of pain management and is an active physician researcher with teaching roles at Teesside University and Reading University. He has served as the Clinical Lead for Pain Medicine at Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust where he was a consultant from 2010 to 2024. He also set up and led the Berkshire Long COVID NHS Service from 2020 to 2024. With over 20 years of specialist experience, he is uniquely qualified as the only physician in the Thames Valley to hold formal qualifications in Pain Medicine, Musculoskeletal (MSK) Medicine, and Lifestyle Medicine, placing him among a small number of clinicians in England with this rare combination of expertise.
Dr Ravindran completed his undergraduate medical training at JIPMER in India, followed by postgraduate training in Oxford. He undertook advanced anaesthesia and pain management training in both India and the UK, including specialist pain medicine fellowships at University College London, the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore, and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. He also holds international qualifications in interventional pain practice, including Fellowship of Interventional Pain Practice (FIPP) from the USA and the European Diploma in Pain Medicine interventions (EDRA) and more recently Board certified in Lifestyle medicine by the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine.
His clinical philosophy centres on early intervention and the appropriate use of multidisciplinary trauma informed lifestyle medicine focussed care to prevent pain becoming chronic. His clinics provide comprehensive diagnostic and investigative assessments supported by close collaboration with physiotherapy and psychology specialists. Alongside evidence-based medication management, Dr Ravindran performs a wide range of image-guided interventional procedures, including epidural, facet joint and sacroiliac joint injections, radiofrequency lesioning, sympathetic blocks and peripheral nerve blocks using X-ray and ultrasound guidance.
Dr Ravindran has a strong interest in lifestyle medicine and the role of diet, nutrition, sleep, stress management and other non-drug-based therapies in chronic pain. He adopts a trauma-informed, “upstreamist” approach to pain care and has been instrumental in developing innovative services, including the award-winning NHS Integrated Pain and Self-Management Service (IPASS) and the Berkshire Long COVID Integrated Service (BLIS). From August 2024, he has focused on supporting primary care through sustainable delivery models such as group consultations and the integration of lifestyle medicine into routine pain care.
He is the author of the Amazon bestseller The Pain Free Mindset, written for patients, the public and healthcare professionals, exploring modern, evidence-based approaches to understanding and overcoming pain. Dr Ravindran is a regular national and international conference speaker and is deeply committed to improving pain education for both patients and healthcare professionals, frequently delivering teaching sessions for GPs and multidisciplinary teams.
In addition to his NHS and private practice at Berkshire Pain Clinic, Dr Ravindran is partnering with The London Psychiatry Centre to deliver an integrated pain and lifestyle medicine service. This collaborative model recognises the close relationship between chronic pain, mental health and trauma, combining pain medicine with neuromodulation approaches such as rTMS, trauma-informed consultations, nervous system regulation, sleep optimisation, movement confidence and long-term recovery planning for conditions including fibromyalgia, migraine and selected neuropathic pain disorders.

He listened to me and explained my situation. Suggested potential options for intervention Best in Business
Most clear and helpful appointment I’ve ever had with a doctor. Dr Ravindran was empathetic, insightful and quick to identify areas where my treatment could improve. He explained things clearly and laid out a practical recovery plan that gave me real confidence moving forward. Thank you Dr Ravindran!
Dr Deepak is a very caring and supportive Person . He explains clearly what to expect. He visited me before and after the procedure. On all his dealings with me on vists to his clinc he has always explained clearly , listened to me and treated me as an sensible adult, despite my advancing age .
Dr Ravindran is an extremely professional, empathetic, Diligent and caring and patient doctor which I am very grateful to be under his care. He listens to the patient and takes me into consideration Both during consultations and also when I’m having my procedure. I personally would like to give Dr Ravindran a Big thank you for the help and support he has given me to assist me in improving my health issue. I am extremely grateful and words cannot fully describe how grateful I am.
I recently had nerve ablation on my lower back from Deepak, OMG Deepak is the loveliest man ever, he treated me so softly and kindly as he knows i am such a nervous patient and been in so much pain for years. This treatment really has made a huge difference and reduced my pain currently about 60% - thank you so much Deepak and your team.. Karen W.
Very clear explanations given. Helpful and thoughtful.
Exceptionally knowledgeable in neuropathic pain . Explained all the options for treatment that other practitioners were unaware of.
Dr Ravindran was very pleasant and slowly described the results of my scan and gave me suggestions on how to go forward. Nothing was rushed
I have a chronic lower back pain issue that has led to several hospital visits recently, trying to find answers in consultation with various doctors. I can say this with confidence that Dr Ravindran has provided more support and optimism in two appointments than I’ve had in a couple of years. Excellent listening abilities coupled with obvious expertise in his field has made my experience thus far extremely positive. Whilst my issue has not been fully resolved thus far, I am confident that working together, we will reach to a place where it doesn’t impact my life every day.
Having worked with Deepak for over a decade, I am inspired by his vision, energy and commitment to his area of work. He brings a unique dedication and a depth of experience to pain management. His ability to build systems and his willingness to help people with pain recovery is commendable. Thank you Deepak for all your hard work.

We do not have specific drugs/medications to help treat or manage the condition of Fibromyalgia. Because of this (and due to the fact that the predominant kind of pain experienced by patients with Fibromyalgia involves a sensitised nervous system - nociplastic pain); Fibromyalgia and other chronic pains, lend themselves to a holistic way of approaching their management rather than relying on medication or interventions. I explain more in this video.

I was asked a question recently about whether a solely carnivorous diet can have a massive positive impact on a person's fibromyalgia? It's an interesting question. The question of whether a solely carnivorous or plant based diet is best is the wrong question. What's more important is the structure of what you eat. I explain more in this video.

I was asked a question by a viewer recently about whether there is a connection between Fibromyalgia and Small Fibre Neuropathy. But what is Small Fibre Neuropathy? Is there a connection and are there any treatments?

Neuropathic Pain occurs when the nerves have been damaged in some way. When surgery takes place, it is rare for there not to be some form of damage that occurs to some of the nerves wherever a cut or procedure is carried out. As a result, pain can occur post surgery, but when this pain continues over and extended time, this becomes known as Chronic Post Surgical Neuropathic Pain.
