About Ms Deborah Boyle

Dr Deborah Boyle is a highly respected Consultant Gynaecologist with more than 30 years of experience, specialising in vulval disease, colposcopy, sexual dysfunction and paediatric and adolescent gynaecology. She has further interests in the treatment of PMS and PMDD.

Her NHS consultant role is at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, where she leads both the vulval service and colposcopy, and she also sees private patients at the Private Patients Unit within The Royal Free  and at The Portland Hospital, part of HCA Healthcare UK. Private paediatric patients are seen at The Portland Hospital Children's Outpatient department (under 13s) and adolescents can be seen either at the paediatric clinic or in main outpatient department at the Portland.

Dr Boyle graduated from the University of Sheffield in 1991 and completed her postgraduate training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in London. In 2000, she was awarded an MD for her research exploring the relationship between bacterial vaginosis and cervical intraepithelial neoplasia. She became a Member and later a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. Dr Boyle holds memberships with several professional societies, including the British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (BSCCP), the British Society for the Study of Vulval Disease (BSSVD), the International Society for the Study of Vulvovaginal Disease (ISSVD), British Society for Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology and is registered on the specialist regsister at the General Medical Council (GMC).

Dr Boyle’s particular expertise focuses on the management of lower genital tract diseases in adults, including vulval skin disorders (such as lichen sclerosus, lichen planus), vulval manifesations of  systemic disease such as Crohn's disease, abnormal smear tests/ colposcopy and cervical treatment, pre-cancerous genital skin conditions, painful sex, and vulval pain conditions.

She has a further interest in paediatric and adolescent gynaecology and can see children from the age of 18 months and upwards.

Dr Boyle provides comprehensive general gynaecological care for women with heavy or painful periods, peri-menopause and menopause, hormonal issues, contraception (including coil fitting), and pelvic pain.

Her clinical practice embraces a holistic and compassionate approach, recognising the importance of considering the whole person and their individual circumstances in medical care. Dr Boyle is also interested in the influence of patients’ faith and beliefs on healthcare preferences and has lectured on this subject.

In addition to her clinical and teaching work, Dr Boyle has contributed to research on the vaginal microbiome and its relationship with cervical health, reflecting her broader interest in the interplay between immunity, infection, and gynaecological conditions.
