Approximately one year ago I experienced a sudden increase/spike in my heart rate when exercising on the rowing machine. My usual heart rate for a steady state training session was between 130 and 145 BPM. This time it suddenly spiked up to about 180 to 190+ bpm, and it would not come down quickly enough. I am quite fit for my age and never had such issues before. As this had never happened before, I did get in touch with my GP and eventually I had a 24hr Holter monitor fitted. The results did not reveal anything that was out of ordinary. Dr Qasim booked several thorough tests and, following the test results, I am now on medication that controls the atrial fibrillation symptoms. I have regained confidence in training harder, and I am now able to race without worrying. I also have regained the confidence that I am not going to have a sudden heart attack or a stroke! As it happens, very soon, I have an appointment with Dr Qa...
