About Dr Ameet Dhar
Dr Ameet Dhar is a renowned consultant hepatologist at the Liver and Anti-viral Unit at St Mary's Hospital, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, London, and the Department of Hepatology and Liver Transplantation at the Royal Free Hospital, London. He is the clinical lead for hepatology and the lead for cirrhosis and portal hypertension, pre- and post-transplant medical care at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. Additionally, he is the lead for the Hepatology Clinical Reference Group for the North West London Integrated Care System (NHS).

Dr Dhar treats patients with a wide range of general liver problems, including alcohol-related liver disease, fatty liver disease, viral hepatitis, and autoimmune liver disorders. He offers comprehensive treatment to patients suffering from cirrhosis and its complications, such as portal hypertension, ascites, and portal hypertension, as well as pre- and post-transplant medical care.
He received his medical degree from Guy's and St. Thomas' Hospital in London and trained in general internal medicine and gastroenterology in North West London. He received sub-specialty training in hepatology at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and the Royal Free Hospital, where he also completed his PhD research on the processes of liver fibrosis in Hepatitis C pre- and post-transplantation and the function of coagulation proteins.
Dr Dhar is actively involved in clinical research and has a special interest in the management of cirrhosis and the prevention of liver fibrosis. He has co-authored several peer-reviewed articles and frequently speaks at both national and international conferences. He is also an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London and leads the Royal Society of Medicine's Hepatology department.

Extremely impressed and delighted with consultations. Very pleasant, helpful and knowledgeable doctor. I have always asked tones of questions during appointments and Dr Dhar was readily answering them and made me feel at ease about asking. He run through my blood results with me too, which I always greatly appreciated. I felt well informed on the benefits and risks of the treatment. Very helpful and with nice manners.
He explains everything very well and puts himself in the patient's shoes while proposing solutions in a positive light considering all test results and personal constraints. Overall a very positive experience.

Dr Dhar has being my consultant for the last two years. I cannot speak highly enough of him !! He is very experienced, extremely compassionate and non- judgmental … He is an extremely committed consultant, in my opinion at times he does a lot more for you , and over and beyond what he is required to do. When Dr Dhar is my consultant, I feel very comfortable in the fact that I know I will receive speedy, efficient care. I also know he has my best interests at heart. The other point I wanted to make is Dr Dhar will listen to you and include you in decisions regarding your health … In conclusion, he is a superb, outstanding consultant.
It was really nice to immediately be able to fully trust a doctor. Dr. Dhar was very thorough and explained everything. He asked me several times if I had any questions. He answered all my questions.

Following a health screen, my liver function tests were elevated and my GP referred me to Dr Dhar for a specialist review, repeat blood tests and an ultrasound. Dr Dhar was very thorough and spent time listening to my medical and family history. He provided practical advice and ways to improve my lifestyle which has resulted in my liver function markers normalising. He has given me a plan to reduce the unhealthy fat in my liver to help prevent more long lasting damage. I highly recommend Dr Dhar, he was very kind caring and reassuring.
