Dominique undertook medical training in Oxford, receiving first class honours. After undergoing full training in plastic and reconstructive surgery in London, she returned to Oxford University to complete a DPhil into the genetic basis of hand deformities, for which she was awarded a Hunterian Professorship by the Royal College of Surgeons. After electing to concentrate on hand surgery, she undertook a fellowship at the prestigious Windsor Hand Clinic.
Her first consultant post was in the Canniesburn Unit in Glasgow. However, in 2005 she was invited to move east, to take up the position of Lead Hand Surgeon of the Lothian Regional Hand Service based at St John's Hospital.
Her NHS practice covers all aspects of hand and wrist surgery, as does her private practice.
Throughout her career she has been extensively involved in research, resulting in many prizes and peer-reviewed publications. She participates in longstanding scientific collaborations with the Universities of Edinburgh and Oxford into Dupuytren's disease. She recently led the Edinburgh arm of the RIDD trial for use of anti-TNF injections for treatment of early Dupytren's.
She acts as an examiner for the British Hand Surgery Diploma. She teaches and lectures widely.
