About Mr Dan Shaerf

Mr. Dan Shaerf is a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in Hand & Wrist Surgery. His NHS practice is at the excellent London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust. He graduated from the prestigious Royal Free & University College London Medical School in 2005 with Merit and undertook a BSc in Orthopaedic Science at the renowned Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital Institute of Orthopaedics. During his core surgical rotation, he was ranked in the top 10% across all of London 4 times consecutively, achieving the highest mark possible in 2009. After completing his specialist training on the highly sought-after North West London (Imperial) Rotation, he underwent 3 further very prestigious Hand & Wrist fellowships at Guy's & St Thomas' Hospital, Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, and Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals; thus honing his remarkable skills even further.

Mr. Shaerf is an expert in disorders and injuries of the hand and wrist. His research has been published in peer-reviewed journals and he has presented at international meetings on topics related to hand and wrist surgery as well as orthopaedics in general. He has set up a successful hand surgery service out of Ealing Hospital in West London and is particularly interested in thumb and wrist arthritis, using state-of-the-art joint replacement technology.

Mr. Shaerf is an experienced and well-qualified surgeon who regularly attends specialist conferences and courses to ensure his skills are cutting-edge. He has been a member of several leading surgical societies, including the British Society for Surgery of the Hand, the European Wrist Arthroscopy Society, and the British Orthopaedic Association. As a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Dan is highly respected in his field.

Having been through a serious car accident and sustaining multiple fractures himself, Mr. Shaerf has first-hand knowledge of what it is like to be on the receiving end of orthopaedic surgery. This gives him a unique understanding and insight into the experience of his patients.

When he's not working, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, keeping fit, and scuba diving.

During my time with Dr. Shaerf, I underwent a series of X-Ray and MRI tests, culminating in a minor wrist surgery, to find the cause and treat a severe wrist pain that I'd been experiencing intermittently for the past 5-6 years, during which multiple other wrist specialists were unable to appropriately diagnose and treat the issue. Dr. Shaerf was direct, succinct and to the point in his method, communication, and treatment of the issue, without feeling abrupt or dismissive. He was efficient and detailed, without making me feel unimportant. Progress was made in every appointment and consultation. He handled everything professionally and with care, making me feel extremely at ease and in good hands when undergoing surgery as well. I would recommend Dr. Shaerf to anyone for anything from simple consultations to more complex treatments and surgeries. My experience was pretty much flawless. Thanks Dr. Shaerf!

From the first appointment to the surgery itself, Dr Shaerf has been incredibly professional, knowledgeable, polite and very clear in his assessment. Almost immediately he was able to theorise the problem I had spent 4 weeks trying to work out with various scans, GP appointments and physio treatment and his prognosis was picked up finally with the last of 4 scans and proved he was spot on. And I am so grateful he did, as the consequences if I had continued my existing treatments would have been dire (difference between 8 weeks and potentially over a year recovery). The surgery itself was incredibly efficient and I always felt 100% confident in my care and in Dr Shaerf’s abilities. I was given all the information needed without asking, his office booked my follow up appointments automatically and even sorted out my healthcare authorisation for me without me asking - all massively appreciated! I wouldn’t hesitate recommending Dr Shaerf and his practice to anyone. There is nothing more I could have asked for and only positives to comment on. I am so glad and relieved I reached out to them.

He listened to my health problem first and then gave his professional diagnosis and how to best resolve my issues step by step. He patiently listened to my questions and concerns and put me to ease by answering them. I left reassured that I was in safe hands and chosen the right consultant for my hand issue.
