Dr Christopher Broyd is a Consultant Cardiologist based in Brighton, specialising in the diagnosis and management of chest pain, shortness of breath, palpitations, dizziness and syncope. He is regarded as one of the region's most skilled interventionalists, with particular expertise in coronary angiography and angioplasty (stent implantation).
As a structural heart specialist, Dr Broyd has performed nearly 1,000 TAVI procedures and is also proficient in PFO closure for stroke prevention with very low complication rates. He is additionally a pioneer in drug-coated balloon treatment for coronary artery disease — an advanced technique that treats heart arteries without leaving a stent behind, allowing more natural healing and potentially better long-term outcomes.
Dr Broyd completed his medical degree at Guy's, King's and St Thomas' Medical School in 2003, followed by specialist cardiology training at leading UK centres including Barts Heart Centre, Harefield Hospital and Hammersmith Hospital. He holds a PhD from Imperial College London, where his research focused on cardiovascular physiology and the non-invasive assessment of cardiovascular function. He went on to complete advanced fellowship training at Hospital Clínico San Carlos in Madrid, and has since held consultant positions in both the UK and Australia. He currently practises within the NHS at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust and sees private patients at Nuffield Health Brighton.
Alongside his clinical work, Dr Broyd previously held an associate professorship at Griffith University, Australia, and is active in postgraduate medical education, supervising MD and PhD candidates and serving as a PhD examiner. His research interests span cardiovascular imaging, diagnostic innovation and the application of machine learning to cardiology, and he has built a strong collaborative relationship with the AI department at the University of Sussex, where he currently supervises PhD students in both AI and cardiology.
He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, contributed to textbooks, and presented at international cardiology conferences. He was a finalist for the Samuel Levine American Heart Association Young Investigator of the Year award, is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP), and holds an honorary position at Brighton and Sussex Medical School.

If all doctors were like Dr Broyd, the world would be a better place.
Very informative. Explained everything and answered all my questions clearly.
My appointment with Dr Broyd was excellent. He was approachable, and explained everything in a way that was clear and helpful to me. He answered all my questions and made me feel comfortable and reassured. He did not rush the appointment and made sure I was completely happy with his decision making regarding my health going forward. Top marks on all fronts!
The consultant was very helpful & informative Made me feel very comfortable
Dr Chris is clearly a very experienced Doctor. His kindness made such a difference to a patient who is nervous. He very much put me at ease and lifted my spirits. His reassurance and clear plan lifted my spirits. He made me feel like I was in a very safe pair of hands and quickly earned my trust. I only wish all doctors and gps alike, had the same skill .
Dr Broyd was kind and thoughtful in his explanation. I would have liked the opportunity to contact the team with further questions after the appointment as it was a lot to take in.
Explained everything clearly, was happy to answer any concerns. Very pleasant out me at ease. Very approachable. Did not feel rushed at any point. Moving forward with a plan, the whole consultation was very reassuring.
A positive experience. Dr Broyd explained why I was in his clinic, reviewed my medical history, checked my blood pressure prior to consultation. Reviewed my medication and made suggestions that, subject to an internal investigation, could be reduced. Explained the purpose of an invasive examination and discussed prognosis subject to outcomes as a result of such investigation. Dr Broyd proposed a realistic timeline for when any such procedure might take place and answered all my questions and addressed my concerns in a thoughtful, caring manner. At the end of the interview, which felt relaxed and unhurried he stood up and shook my hand. Doctors don’t do that. Impressed and reassured.
Excellent outpatient appointment- on time, gave me all the time I needed and allowed me to ask lots of questions. Very kind and reassuring throughout.
